Customer Testimonials

The following testimonials are from satisfied GermanAutoConnection customers, and are posted with their permission.  We welcome your testimonials as well, and have provided a submission form for your convenience.  Audi owners share a special kinship, and they also like to spread the word when they find a great place to get quality parts and service.... like GermanAutoConnection!

We also invite you to read: Why Choose GermanAutoConnection?

I just wanted to post an email to the list in which I praised Bruce McGuire and his cohort of competent mechanics at the German Auto Connection (formerly known as AudiConnection) in Suffolk, Virginia.

I own two 1990 V8's with automatic transmissions (Canadian spec). They were both in need of some major servicing including TB's. I think that I could've tackled most of the work myself as I have worked as a mechanic a long time ago and have successfully done a fair number of TB's on cars including one of my V8's. However, things have been too busy lately for me to set aside the time needed to effect the repairs; furthermore, I thought that having a real V8 expert go over the cars would ensure that they were 'buttoned up' right, and that they would provide many more miles of reliable service. So I contacted Bruce who has sold me many parts over the past few years--providing great service on each occasion!

bullet [To read more, click here...]

bullet Not only did Bruce and his crew do a great job on the cars, they even traveled hundreds of miles from southern Virginia to thaca, NY to drive them down to the shop! My girlfriend and I picked up the cars from his parent's place in northern Virgina when they ready...just a few miles from Washington's Dulles airport.

Bruce is a perfectionist.....this is a good thing when he's the one working on your car! They are working better than ever. Furthermore, Bruce replaced/repaired countless things at no charge! He is a man of integrity. My only warning to others is that should he ever offer you any coffee that he has brewed up, you may consider diluting it....it is even stronger than the stuff that hard-core European coffee drinkers will chug down.....Bruce probably knows that he suffers from a caffeine dependence problem.

Excessive caffeine consumption aside, if any listers are at a stage where they are considering parting with their V8(s) because of a growing list of items requiring service, I recommend giving consideration to having Bruce and his boys at German Auto Connection working your car over. In my opinion, when set up right, these cars are still technologically current, safe, and a relative bargain for what you get.

Bruce will help you stay on the road longer, and save you money in the long run.

I have to say that all of my experience with the company has been great. Bruce recently came to the rescue for Kyle Leatherwood and myself while we were doing the timing belt on my 60k mile 91 V8Q 5sp. (Actually Kyle was doing most of the work, I was scrounging tools and hauling beer, but I digress.)

bullet [To read more, click here...]

bullet During the course of this project that should have taken 6-7 hours max, we discovered that the belt tensioner bracket had a hairline crack, with a little prodding it became a full fledged separation. (Imagine my frame of mind had it separated during the epic 3 day sprint from Seattle to Richmond in May to make it to the soiree in Suffolk!!). A late Saturday afternoon call to Bruce produced a replacement for the offending item and a quick run (by Kyle, as I was by then involved with a young lady (or so she said) for the evening) resulted in the ongoing installation. All went well until about 10 pm when it was discovered (again by Kyle, see where this is going?) that the crank gear had decided to separate itself into two distinct pieces (refer to the afore mentioned cross-country run). Being indisposed at that hour of the night myself, Kyle called Bruce again and wonder of wonders, he again supplied the necessary piece. Another quick trip to Suffolk in the wee hours resulted in a nice running 5-sp on Sunday. Now if someone can finally figure out the fuel and temp gauge problem, I'll be a happy man.

The entire point of this missive is that Bruce went far beyond the call of business or even friendship in helping get the car back on the road. I guess you've figured out by now, that Kyle falls into the same category. This is not the first time that Bruce has gone above the call, every dealing I have had with him, has left me feeling like I had met one of the world's best people.

He's gonna hate it, but the '92 4.2 is due for a belt soon; if he's smart he'll be on vacation in Barbados when that job is undertaken.

Thanks again Bruce, (you too, Kyle) for the help and friendship, I'll see you soon.

I was doing a timing belt on a friend's 91 V8 5-speed and ran into needing a couple of parts immediately to complete the job. This was at 4:00 pm on Saturday. I called Bruce and he told me no problem, he would make arrangements for me to come down and get the parts THAT EVENING! I drove to Suffolk and got the parts I needed and had the job done Sunday morning first thing. NO OTHER COMPANY that I have ever dealt with gives the kind of service that Bruce does.

I have and will continue to send anyone to Bruce.

There are times in your life when things are too good to be believed. My car purchase from you is one of those times. I received no surprises and the car was everything you said it was and more. Thanks for being so accommodating and your help in making this long distance purchase possible. We'll stay in touch and I do not hesitate recommending you.

I bought a splash guard from Bruce for $125 bucks in great condition. $500 from AUDI! I asked after the deal about fasteners and he is throwing them in also. I got the splash guard in three days. I will look here for parts first. A great company with excellent communication.

My V8 died in my garage, I had no one to turn to for months until a guy I met at an Audi dealership at Huntingdon Valley PA told me of GermanAutoConnection and gave me their web site... That brought back life to the V8. That is the best conversation I had with Kavin.

Bruce and Keith are the best, I really don't know what I would have done with the V8 without them...

Haven't had any major issues with my '90 V8 Quattro, but advice and maintenance parts provided by Bruce and Keith have been prompt, accurate, and priced fairly. They are caring, professional people and it is a pleasure to deal with them.

Wow!

That pretty much sums up how I feel about the work that Keith and Bruce put into my 87 5ktq. Keith did a suspension rebuild on my car two weeks ago, the results are amazing, the handling and cornering of the car are amazing, the quality of work put into this was great. After hearing about the quality of work these guys have done over the years and after seeing the work done on my car and my father's V8 not too long ago, I will recommend these guys to any other Audi owner needing work done. The drive down to their shop may be long and brutal at times, but in my opinion it was worth it.

Thank you guys for making my baby even better, and this is only the beginning! lol!

I purchased a rebuilt 88 5ks 5spd locally and, like any other young man with an Audi, I started digging under the hood, seats, door panels and dash board to repair and re-vamp my Audi. I've been impressed with the comments made of GermanAutoConnection and Bruce specifically so when I went to repair (over and over again) my 88' 5ks, I got frustrated and e-mailed Bruce.

Know this... I'm not a customer and never was before this, but when I e-mailed him about my problem he got back to me, same day, and walked me through any questions I had.

This was not a car he sold to me, but he helped me out anyway, offered parts at amazing prices, and any help with the most minute detail. When Bruce is ready, and I am able. I hope to purchase my first A8 from him.

I wanted to take the time to praise Keith and Bruce at GermanAutoConnection. I had a trip planned to drive my 1990 V8 from Tampa to Philadelphia, so I set up some work to be done at the shop. All I can say is that it was the best experience ever! Worth the trip!

bullet [To read more, click here...]

bullet Keith fixed my brakes, installed 2 new struts and gave the car a once over. He really spent some time on it and gave me a bill I thought was very fair. I was so impressed I stopped on the way back and had the other 2 struts replaced. Keith took the time to help me with some other issues late into the night. You can't get this kind of service anywhere these days.

And don't forget parts! They got the parts I needed and the prices were right. Recently I needed some good used parts and Bruce came to my rescue, so when ever I need something new or used I know where I am going first.

Keith corrected some problems that were potential car killers, timing belt pad and tensioner pulley, and pointed out items that I should address.

Timing belt time is coming up soon, I wouldn't go to any other place, is worth the drive to know it's done right, where they stand behind their work.

Thanks guys!

I've had this love/hate relationship with my V8 for the past 4 years and lately the hate part has been getting to be the bigger part of the relationship. But, thanks to a bit of counseling from the Audi Doctors Keith and Bruce I'm in sync with my beloved beast.

Up until this last upgrade/repair I've had all my work done locally in New Jersey at either the Audi dealerships or at various foreign car independent garages. Overall I have not been happy with the work and it seemed that the car was performing worse than when I originally got it.

bullet [To read more, click here...]

bullet Well after trading some email and phone calls with Mark Willoughby I bought his custom heads and intake manifold and on his advise contacted Keith to do the install. Dropped the car off and waited for the work to be done.

Well... the 7 hour drives and the wait for the car was worth it. The car has been transformed, the car is a rocket ship! The car hasn't driven this well since I've purchased it. In addition Keith corrected some problems that were potential car killers, timing belt pad and tensioner pulley, and pointed out items that I should address.

I have the highest praise for Keith and Bruce, the quality of their work and the manner they treated me. Keith's test drive is also note worthy. Bring a set of clean shorts to change into..:-)

First off, I'd like to thank Keith and Bruce of GermanAutoConnection for helping to get my v8 back on the road in a timely fashion.

Some months ago my A/C went out -- presumably compressor-- so I only used the econ mode until the clutch went as well last week -- can you say smoke + lots of bits of burnt rubber from the accessory serpentine belt. I ended up having to cut the belt because the engine would barely turn over.

bullet [To read more, click here...]

bullet Anyhow, I made the wrong decision in picking up a remanufactured (supposedly) A/C compressor w/clutch on eBay from a place called TexAuto (I think) in (where else) Texas end of September. I emailed them my car info and they still sent me the wrong compressor in October (or at least the wrong pulley), whereupon I sent it back and they sent the 'correct' one, which while the compressor housing fit, the clutch was off by 1/2 inch! My tech didn't figure that one out until he went to install the serpentine belt.

You can imagine how embarrassed I was (and I've known my tech buddy for 14 years). I knew I wouldn't get a replacement soon enough (still haven't had a reply from my e-mail last Wednesday?) I think their rating will be going down a notch shortly.

I phoned GermanAutoConnection on Wednesday afternoon and spoke to Keith and they just happened to have the right compressor for me -- 91 v8 5 speed (still on the car, of course) and overnighted it to my local shop. Everything from then on went like clockwork.

I just can't thank them enough. And at a lower price than the worthless 'reman' unit. That's my shameless plug.

These guys are fair, honest, and smart. They have done extensive work on my 1991 200 20v and my 1993 S4, and I have only the highest praise for them and their work ethic.

They are worth the extra drive. Hands down, Keith Tackett is the best Audi mechanic I have ever met.

Last week, I picked up my completed 4.2 V8 5-speed conversion from GermanAutoConnection in Suffolk, Virginia.

Here are my thoughts on the conversion after one week of driving the car, but first a little bit of history:

bullet [To read more, click here...]

bulletbullet History: Last year, I purchased a high-mileage 1991 V8 5-speed that became the donor car for this conversion. The car was not salvageable as the body had rusted severely near the windshield area. After replacing the O2 sensor, fuel-filter and fuel-pressure regulator, this V8 5-speed drove like a champ. After acquiring the car, I spoke with Keith at The GermanAutoConnection and he thought that a 5-speed conversion of my 1993 4.2 V8 was eminently doable. I was also forewarned by Keith and Bruce that the job could not really be quoted to the dollar up front. I decided to proceed with the conversion as I had faith in Keith's technical ability and trust in Bruce's business ethics. The advantage of providing a 5-speed donor car to do the conversion is that all the brackets, sensors, wiring details and mounting/tunnel differences could be directly compared between the later 1993 4.2 automatic V8 and the earlier 1991 3.6 5-speed V8. I had read the archives to find much rumor and speculation as to the potential pitfalls of this conversion. But how better to answer the question of what was required to make the change than simply undertaking the project with both cars at hand. With that it mind, I drove my 1993 V8 (with 73,000 miles on the clock) as well as the 1991 V8 5-speed to GermanAutoConnection to begin the conversion. After much effort by Keith, the conversion is complete.

Technical details: I will let Keith comment on the technical details of the conversion. Many items such as the pedal assembly mounting, clutch master cylinder installation, transmission tunnel fit, wiring harness and instrument cluster compatibility, center console fitment, rear-differential compatibility, exhaust system clearance, driveshaft mounting points, and so on had to be addressed during this conversion. The smallest details such as correct operation of the cruise-control and speedometer all needed to be resolved. One comment with regard to GermanAutoConnection's efforts: I don't believe they should be required to divulge all their knowledge with respect to the intricacies of this complex conversion. It is more important that listers recognize that the conversion can be done and that a capable shop is available to do the work. Keith, please chime in with your comments on the technical aspects of the conversion.

Workmanship: This conversion looks, runs and drives like a factory Audi V8 5-speed. From inside the car, you really cannot tell that the car was modified. Only a close inspection of the pedal assembly or instrument cluster would provide clues to the special nature of this car. Viewed from underneath, the car has the highest degree of integrity and looks like a perfect factory assembly. There are no kludged brackets, stray wires or mysterious bits to be found. This is a masterful conversion.

Driving Experience: With the automatic transmission installed, my low mileage pearl white 4.2 V8 felt like a very sophisticated car, fast, but somewhat polite in character. The 5-speed transmission transforms the personality of this car. In casual driving, it remains very sophisticated and composed. In aggressive driving, the car takes on a very masculine athletic character. The throttle response is immediate in any gear from 2500 rpm upward. The acceleration at launch is exhilarating. Yesterday, I traveled about a hundred miles with five people on board. Unlike my chipped 200TQ 20V, which feels labored under the equivalent passenger load, the 5-speed V8 still accelerates in an outstanding fashion and with considerable ease. Keith had also replaced front control arms, sway-bar bushings, and a rear track arm while the car was up on the lift. With 255/40-17 AVS dB tires all around, and new Boge turbogas struts/shocks, this V8 5-speed also provides handling consistent with its revised forward motivation. Yet, it remains tight and supple in daily driving over Pennsylvania's less than ideal roads.

A fellow lister, Shane, had also visited as my son and I were preparing to leave GermanAutoConnection for home. Shane was able to drive the car on the back roads of Virginia. As the long-term owner of a V8 5-speed, I hope that Shane can provide additional comments as to the driving experience. Keith, I'm sure everyone would appreciate your insight as well.

Further thoughts: The front brakes will need to be updated to provide stopping power consistent with the greater acceleration. I am leaning toward a Bira System 3 installation. The gearbox installed from the donor car has perfect synchros in all gears but a residual gear whine in gears three through five. I will eventually replace it with a lower mileage specimen. Finally, under brutal launching of the car, the rear exhaust will come in contact with the underside of the car. I'll have Keith look at this issue in a subsequent visit.

Conclusion: This was not an inexpensive conversion to say the least. Subsequent customers would benefit as the exploratory work has been done and the difficult steps characterized and resolved. Would I do it again? Yes, in a heartbeat! The 4.2 V8 5-speed is a delight to drive and exceeds my expectations in most every regard! My sincere thanks to Keith and Bruce at GermanAutoConnection and kudos to Keith for a job well done!

If you've read this far down the testimonial page, you must be thinking this is some kind of contest to come up with the most unbelievable story about GermanAutoConnection's "customer service", but after knowing Bruce and Keith for about 1.5 yrs, none of this is surprising at all.  Bruce has slowly built up his business from a local guy helping himself and others from being relieved of their $$$ from local dealer "service", and then out of nowhere comes the "no-name" (real name Keith) stranger riding his Audi V8. For those of you who have watched vintage TV, only one show comes to mind... the ODD COUPLE.

bullet [To read more, click here...]

bullet It's worth the drive down (my GermanAutoConnection commute is 4 hrs. roundtrip) to watch these two in action... Keith, the "Rush Limbaugh" of Audi performance vs. Bruce, "Socrates" of garage philosophy... where else can you get people who actually drive these cars, appreciate the good with the bad parts, and actually convince others to buy them???

Now I will admit Keith and I have a special love of "never being able to leave something alone."  My '91 V8 has been sort of a Frankenstein for Keith's mad scientist experiments... the Wilwood brakes he installed on my car are really a great up-grade for any V8.

My V8 is a total testament to their work... we have all three been in the garage working to get me out the door, usually after sundown, and when Keith is tired of my "carbon fiber" jokes (usually the carbon fiber cigarette lighter does it) out the door and on my way...

Bruce and Keith are the best thing to happen for Audi enthusiasts who decide to keep the older Audi's, or just plain love 'em till they drop, and drop, and drop again... their love for Audi's and the people they meet, whether at Audi events or stuck on the side of the road needing help, surpasses anything I've seen.

OK, I need to stop, or Bruce will think I'm after the "best testimonial" prize ... an E ride with Keith ... yeeeee haaaaaa!!!

Thx again Bruce & Keith for everything from Audi's to friendship!!!

I was thinking of selling my 1991 V8 Quattro on eBay after I was told by my local Tyson's Corner, Virginia mechanic that it needed a new steering rack and possibly a new tranny.  The quote for the rack was $1,750 including a 4 wheel alignment after the rack was installed.  This same mechanic had just lightened my wallet by over $400 to install one of the two high pressure hoses that attach to the rack which, they claim, was a source of my leaks.  I put an ad on eBay for $7,750 clearly stating the rack problem and the quote to repair the rack.  I got an e-mail from Bruce at GermanAutoConnection.com asking me to reconsider selling this car and that he and Keith could install a rebuilt ZF rack for $875 and guarantee the rack for the life of the car.

bullet [To read more, click here...]

bullet I was skeptical because I had used my mechanic for years on a number of Audis that I have owned since 1985.  Nevertheless, when no one offered me my money - high bidder bid $4,300 - I decided to have Bruce and Keith install the new rack.

Last Thursday, after driving another car 9 hours from Cape Cod to Reston, VA, I got up at 4 and drove the Audi to Suffolk - another 3 and a half-hour drive one way.  Bruce and Keith had the new rack and offered to let me stay and watch or take one of their cars to Virginia Beach for the day.  I opted to stay and watch.  I noted how thoroughly Keith and Bruce went about their work - often inspecting each others' work to my amusement.  This was true cooperation from my standpoint.  I learned how much these two professionals love Audi V8 Quattros.  There were no fewer that 10 of them in their bone yard - some of which they were rebuilding for customers and some of which were used for parts because, for one reason or another, they weren't good to rebuild.

Keith was about finished and started the car to make sure no leaks were found. He wanted to take it out to check out the transmission situation too.  After about 2 minutes of idling and checking for leaks - it was now 6 PM - Bruce was heard to say "shut it off there is a major hose leak."  Wouldn't you know it, the one hose that my mechanic didn't replace was leaking badly.  If I were at my regular mechanic, they would have to special order the hose and it probably would have to come from Germany.  That also assumed that the regular mechanic hadn't punched out at 5 PM as most do.  Not here! Keith and Bruce scoured their lot and looked for a replacement used hose on one of the bone yard cars.  They found one and installed it in an hour.  No leaks this time so it was time for the "test drive" that Keith had wanted to do.  He asked if I wanted to go with him as a passenger and Bruce warned me to not be squeamish as this would probably be an "E" Ride. (For those of you not old enough to know what that is, an "E" ride was the most terrifying ride at Disney World in Orlando when they opened in the late 1970's.)

Keith warmed up the car and we started out the driveway.  He lined us up and tromped on the accelerator.  Zoom! Off we went with tons of white soot flying out the exhaust.  The first few times we did this, Keith was not happy with the performance.  We went back to the pit to hook up the new Audi computer that monitors fault codes.  He saw that something was amiss and fixed it.  We then retried the performance blast down the old farm highway in front of his place.  What a difference that tweak made.  In addition, Keith proclaimed that my transmission was healed.  Not a thing wrong with it and it shifted religiously at 6,500 RPM so no teeth were chipped or missing from the flywheel - only from my amazed, wide-open mouth!  My car never has performed like this - ever!  Keith and Bruce encouraged me to blow this soot out of this car on a regular basis because it "likes to be driven hard."

I was about ready to leave as it was now 8:30 PM and I still had an over three-hour drive home when we tried the power windows.  Audis have a device that controls the power windows and the sunroof that, in my car, sometimes would not allow the windows to work.  I'd wait a minute or two and then, all of a sudden, the windows would work fine.  This time, the windows were down and I was about to start a long, fast drive.  Without hesitation, Bruce went to his 1993 V8 Quattro and pulled his good controller out and told me that he would order me a new one and send it to me after which I would return his to him.  That is customer service of the highest order.

These men know Audi's and are professional as well as personable.  I decided to keep this fine car in the family and sold it to my son who was driving my 1986 Audi 5000CS Turbo Quattro with 285,000 miles on it.  Anyone want it for a great price?  All it needs is a clutch and front brakes and it will probably go another 100k miles!

Thanks Bruce and Keith.  You guys are GREAT!

This probably belongs in Ripley's "Believe It or Not":

I fell in love with a gorgeous black/black '90 V8 Quattro from GermanAutoConnection, and bought it right away. I flew from my home in Naples, FL to pick up the car, and drove it the 14 hour drive back home. What a dream on the highway! About an hour into the drive, the air conditioning went out...something deeply important in southwest Florida. I took it to the local Audi dealer for evaluation, and they said it needed a new compressor, etc. to the tune of $2400!!!

Bruce felt terrible, and actually FLEW down and drove the car BACK to Virginia to repair it himself. Turns out it was just a thermostat... a $169 part. Now it was my turn to feel terrible, but Bruce drove the car 14 hours back down here, and now he has a CUSTOMER FOR LIFE.

bullet [To read more, click here...]

bullet Whenever I relate this story to friends, they are incredulous: "He actually flew down, took the car back, and repaired it for FREE?!!?" I always answer "Yes"... and they cannot believe I have found the most honest car seller/restorer in the country. If you value the powerful V8, the silky tranny, and the most gorgeous interior you will ever see in a car... buy a car from GermanAutoConnection: they stand behind their work, and will continue to support you in all your parts and tuning challenges.

Thanks a million!

Bruce, Keith,

You can use this on your website:

The folks at GermanAutoConnection really stand behind their cars.  After owning one of their 1990 V8Qs for 3 weeks, my steering rack failed completely - fortunately in my own driveway.  Needless to say, I was a bit distressed at the prospect of pulling the rack in a V8, particularly so soon after my purchase.

I was overwhelmed by the GermanAutoConnection response.  Even though I live nearly 4 hours away, Keith drove up, on a Saturday, with replacement power steering lines, o-rings, Pentosin, and a replacement rack (just in case).

bullet [To read more, click here...]

bullet He spent his weekend walking me through the process of pulling the rack, jumping in often to help me through a particularly tight spot.  Even though I'd pulled a 5000 rack years ago, I could not have finished this job successfully without Keith's assistance.

Bruce really stands behind his cars with a 6-months parts warranty.  He wrings these cars out before releasing them.  The failure of my rack was something he could not have detected or predicted.  When it failed, he made things right for me.  All this support, replacement parts, and fluids came at no cost to me.  Another not-so-obvious benefit of this is that I learned more about my car this last weekend than some owners will ever know.

Keith is a storehouse of knowledge and experience on the Audi V8Q.  Over the years I've done my share of maintenance on Type 44 Audis, but knowing that GermanAutoConnection is there when I need specialized knowledge of the V8 was the main reason I chose to buy my V8 from them.

If you appreciate dealing with honest people who go out of their way to make your experience with this superior car as pleasant as possible, by all means, buy your next V8 from GermanAutoConnection.

Wow!

What a great place to buy your new (or rather old) Audi!

When I wrecked my 1st V8, I was desperately seeking to replace it.  I was very lucky to find Bruce and GermanAutoConnection.com

bullet [To read more, click here...]

bullet Bruce had the perfect car for me, a 1990 Indigo Blue V8 Quattro, with grey leather interior, which I paid him to customize to a 2-tone black & grey.

Awesome car, just as he described it, in near-perfect condition - especially after Bruce and Keith had gone through it with a fine-toothed comb, and fixed any known problems - as well as performed any needed service to the car - which, by the way, had only 159,000 miles on it after 11 years of operation.

Thanks guys!  Love the car - Love you!  Won't be the last car I get from you!  Keep up the good work!
