V8 Quattro Timing Belt WARNING!!!
(and good reasons to consider GermanAutoConnection's timing belt service)
|
Dear Customer,
Many shops are not replacing all the necessary items
when completing the timing belt service on the V8 Quattro.
These cars are reaching mileages that require a more comprehensive list of
replacement parts. What was
appropriate for the 60,000 mile service might not suffice at the 120,000 mile
service and beyond. While you are in there, our recommendation is to replace all
of the required parts and not have to worry about it for another 60K (3.6 V8) or
75K (4.2 V8). There is nothing more frustrating than paying a lot of $ for this
service only to have bearing noises emanating from the front of the motor!

We have also witnessed improper tensioning of the belt and other mistakes which
have caused catastrophic failure. The photo at left shows a
properly tensioned V8 timing
belt and associated parts kit. (Click on the photo to enlarge it.)
We are beginning to see an increase in broken or jumped timing belts within only
10K-20K miles of the most recent service. This failure almost always bends the
valves. The cost of the service is high, but is small compared to the cost of
replacing bent valves which comes in at around $2,500-$3,500 depending on who is
doing the work. |
Our standard labor cost for this service is $700. Many of our customers have
opted to bring their V8s from other states to have us perform this crucial
service. This service will take us one LONG day or preferably two days with no
pressure. Some customers bring a whole wish list of items and make the trip into
a vacation in sunny Virginia Beach!
If you are brave enough to attempt this job yourself, you might want to consider
paying us a consultation fee for technical support.
We can guide you through the process and help you to avoid common pitfalls. Some
of the more mechanically inclined owners who tried it on their own have had
quite a learning experience!
