We have also witnessed improper tensioning of the belt and other mistakes which
have caused catastrophic failure. The photo at left shows a
properly tensioned V8 timing
belt and associated parts kit. (Click on the photo to enlarge it.) We are beginning to see an increase in broken or jumped timing belts within only 10K-20K miles of the most recent service. This failure almost always bends the valves. The cost of the service is high, but is small compared to the cost of replacing bent valves which comes in at around $2,500-$3,500 depending on who is doing the work. |

Our standard labor cost for this service is $700. Many of our customers have opted to bring their V8s from other states to have us perform this crucial service. This service will take us one LONG day or preferably two days with no pressure. Some customers bring a whole wish list of items and make the trip into a vacation in sunny Virginia Beach! We can guide you through the process and help you to avoid common pitfalls. Some of the more mechanically inclined owners who tried it on their own have had quite a learning experience!
